Rijksmuseum Twenthe has public domain images of objects from the 13th century to modern times with particular focus on the 18th century art.

The selection of works by famous 17th century artists Jacob van Ruisdael and Salomon van Ruysdael can be found as well as a large selection of animal paintings by Wilhelm Kuhnert, Carl Rungius and Bruno Liljefors.

There are paintings of the late 19th century impressionists as well. You can also find medieval books and religious objects, hundreds of prints, drawings and pamphlets by Dutch and international artists.

Subjects vary from portraits, drawings of animals, city life scenes, landscapes, humorous sketches and interiors.

Most of the original works in this collection, which are under an open licence and available to download in high resolution, are in the public domain in the European countries. 

Rijksmuseum Twenthe is in the Netherlands and guided by Dutch copyright law. It applies open licence to digital scans where original works are believed to be in the public domain in the Netherlands (and most of the European countries).

How to be more secure?

There is no filter to find images by date of creation/publishing. 

You need to check each image individually:

1. Go to the image page
2. Identify all the authors and contributors
3. Find the death date of the last living author (dates are available)
If the last living author has passed away more than 70 years ago, most likely, his/her works are in the public domain in most of the European countries.
